Mill Spring Agricultural Center

Mill Spring Agricultural Development Center:

The Building: The donation of the former Mill Spring School to the Polk Soil and Water Conservation
District is a major game changer for Polk County residents and beyond. Its evolution into the Mill
Spring Agricultural Economic Development Center focus’ on preserving the rural character and
enhancing the community of Polk County by supporting sustainable agriculture and providing a
multi-use space for creating green collar jobs, businesses, community liaisons and special events.
The center is bringing together the collaborative value of state, federal and public resources in effort
to build beneficial networks and innovative projects that will create a legacy of positive community spirit for generations to come.

Renovations are on-going in and around the building bringing it back to an operational condition
since it was abandoned 13 years ago. The initial repairs consist of the roof system including flashing,
gutters, fascia, brick chimney and directing storm water; the drive and parking which consists of
grading and gravel installation to create suitable parking while maintaining the aesthetics of the
property and the initial plumbing and electrical repair consisting of testing and installing adequate
utilities and operations. Its well-known around the center that “scraping and painting” is a stock
answer when asked, “Is there anything I can do to help out today?”
