Our Board
The Polk County Farmland Preservation & Agricultural Economic Development Board was created to:
1. Reconnect the community by supporting local agriculture and the rural heritage of the county.
2. To enhance new and existing farms by ensuring their sustainable operation for future generations.
3. To explore new opportunities and technologies that build strong community networks and expand agriculture in Polk County.
4. To preserve farmland in Polk County through voluntary and agricultural easements and financial incentive programs.
Our board is focused on two main goals:
1. Establishing farmland preservation programs
2. Stimulating the local agricultural economy
We understand that to keep farmer's farming, they must be financially sound and have the support of the community behind them. In addition, Polk County defines a 'farmer' as someone who raises or grows a product for sale. Whether large or still growing, all local farmers contribute to the agricultural economic base in Polk County.
While most of our members are part or full-time farmers, others are residents who care deeply about supporting local farms, open spaces, natural resources, food quality, and wilderness areas.
